Instructions For Home Care For A Neck Injury
- Do not apply heat or massage with liniment unless instructed to do so by your doctor.
- If support is needed, fold a towel until you can wrap it around your neck to form a support type collar. Do not use when lying down.
- Avoid turning and bending neck in any type of motion that causes pain.
- Avoid prolonged periods of sitting or standing in one position. Lie on back with small pillow under cervical spine (neck) for support.
- If blurred vision, dizziness, headaches, ringing in ears, or nausea are experienced, contact your doctor immediately. If any of the above symptoms persist, avoid putting the head and neck in a position which will require extension of the neck (looking up) and rotation (looking over shoulder). If symptoms worsen and you are unable to contact a doctor, consult your nearest hospital emergency room for advice.
- Instructions which apply to sudden back injury can also be used for sudden neck injury as it applies to ice application.
